Shooting video

Avoid pointing the camera toward the light. Your subject will be a silhouette.   Beware contrasts.

Hold the camera steady!  Use a tripod, lean against a wall, or try the shoestring method.

Leave space to edit. Before you begin and after you have finished asking questions, let the camera run 10 or so seconds.

Find a break in the action/talk. When editing, don't cutthe video when someone is still talking or just as they finish.

Adjust the sound in the editing program so that it is at a consistent level.

Pay attention to sound. Avoid recording in rooms where there is a lot of noise, machines humming, etc.

Know what questions you want to get answered before you begin taping.

New York Times review

Transfer from Flip to MACs
  1. Plug Flip into back of Mac.
  2. Locate Writing A lab server on your desktop.
  3. Find Flip Video.
  4. Open the DCIM folder.
  5. Open the folder it brings up.
  6. Identify your file.
  7. Drag and drop into iMovie.
  8. It will convert it from an .AVI to .Mov file.
  9. Put Flip icon into Trashcan and disconnect.

Transferring content to your  PC
1
. Turn off Flip.

2. Plug into USB.   Your computer will recognize it.  DO NOT open using the Flip software. Instead, scroll down to Open Folder

3. The Flip will have a set of (four) folders.  Open the DCIM folder.

4. Select your video file.  You can save your file into the computer’s video files (rename it) and then import your file.

5. Once finished pulling it off the Flip, disconnect the Flip like a jump drive (on a PC, click the green arrow on the bottom right of your computer).

BE CAREFUL PLUGGING INTO AND REMOVING FROM USB – IT IS SOMEWHAT FLIMSY
